An artist from Iranian part of Kurdistan, Waledkhani works in mixed media, including drawing, painting, hand drawn stop-motion video, sculpture and installation. His research is embedded in childhood memories from Al-tash, the refugee-camp he was born in Iraq. Subsquently immigration, genocide, independence, Kurdish ideology, human rights, identity politics are a main concerns expressed in his body of work. Awarded a Bachelor of Fine degree in 2014 Waledkhani has exhibited in several places in Norway and Sweden. In 2011 he attended to Høstutstillingen in Oslo, which led to a wandering exhibition in 2012 that traveled from Sandefjord to Bergen, Fauske, Trondheim, and Fredrikstad. In 2016 he has been active force in an international group exhibition called Make Change in Sweden about the ongoing and deepening refugee crises. For the graduation exhibition show Serhed explores what motion and movement is for him in his acute context - what it really means to move – he articulates this through moving image devices made of bicycle parts and weaved stop-motion video installation. Through an attempt to dialog with the viewer, Waledkhani aims to point to universal issues that doesn’t concern only the Kurds. The immigration situation is Global as much as many innocent people are losing their lives in the war in Syria and Kurdistan. As such the objective of the research is to send a clear signal to the world to open their eyes to the subjugated movement that is depicted.
